Dabbing, guttekoret

The boys and men in the Nidaros boys choir are all here because of their love of singing. They join the choir as an after school activity as young boys at the age of 7 or 8 – and essentially grow up with and in the choir. Developing into supreme singers and becoming an essential addition to the family that is our choir. Big or small – we all look after each other and know each other well. We have a lot of fun during breaks and on tour – we are a tight group with a good sense of humor.

Practice makes perfect also when it comes to singing. Once you discover this, singing becomes even more fun and in the Nidaros Boys Choir we love to sing! Moreover, you learn to stay focused and concentrate on exercises – it actually helps you master other activities better too, even at school. Along with the good working atmosphere in our choir this can help develop a better self image So what are you waiting for, join us in the choir!

Norways oldest boys choir

The Nidaros Boys Choir is Norways oldest boys choir and continues a 900 years old tradition of boy choir singing in the Nidaros Cathedral. The choir is now independant from the churc, but the famous cathedral Nidarosdomen is still our main concert arena and we participate regularly at services.

Nidaros Cathedral Boys Choir is one of the leading choirs in Europe. Our reperatoar spans from major works for choir, orchestra and soloists to Gregorian chant. Every year we perform at a series of concerts, both at home and abroad, and have toured all over Europe, as well as in Singapore, the USA and Canada.

Bjørn Moe is our conductor and artistic director. He started his own musical career at the age of 8, as a young soprano in the Nidaros cathedral boys’ choir. He has been the choirs conductor and musical leader since 1973. He was also professor of music at the University of Trondheim (NTNU) from 1973 until 2015, where he specialized in the education of future choir leaders. He is widely recognized as one of the leading choir trainers in Norway, and was awarded the King’s medal in gold for this work in 2002.

The choir consists of both boys and men, around 50 boys aged 9-15 år and 25 mens voices. Sopranos and alts are recruited from the aspirant choir, while the mens voices  are mostly former boy singers. Many of our singers hav over 20 years experience in the choir. We fokus on keeping our boy singers as long as possible through the voice changes during puberty and have acquired considerable knowledge of singing in the voice change period.

We practice at least 5 h a week. In addition to concerts and tours, as well as regular joint parctices on saturdays.
