The main choir consists of both young boys and adults. Today around 50 boys between the ages of 9 and 15, and 25 male voices are the base of our choir.
Boys with soprano and alt voices, are recruited into the main choir from the aspirant choir. While the male voices are largely former boy singers. The youngest members are 9 years old when they have completed the aspirant choir and been enrolled in the main choir. The choir has no upper age limit, and therefore has singers up to 70 years old. Several of our singers have over 20 years experience in the choir. We place great emphasis on retaining boy singers as long as possible into their voice change, and have developed considerable knowledge of singing in voice change period.
The main choir is divided into 8 voice groups, soprano (1 and 2), alt (1 and 2), tenor (1 and 2) and bass (1 and 2). Our choir steup is unike, because the choir is lined up as two independent choirs side by side: the soprano groups stand on each wing, while the two alt groups stand beside each other in the middle. Behind the sopranos on each wing are the bass groups, while the tenor groups are located behind the alts. This gives the choir a distinctive timbre. In addition this classification opens for more variations in concerts, as the two choirs can vary between singing together and separately. This is an advantage since the choir often performs works for double choirs.
Logoped Alfhild Ingebrigtsen and the voice pedagogues Mona Skjeldal and Heidi Salin Small, make sure that each singer gets personal attention.
All members rehearse at least 5 hours a week divided over two days.
In addition, the choir regularily arranges joint exercises with the aspirant choir on Saturdays. When we also make time for a common meal.
